The IEL International School General Education Program has adopted the Cambodian National Government Pre-School-Primary-Secondary Education Curricula and integrated it with other core subjects which are important for the full development of every Cambodian child.

Special Features of our General Khmer Education Program

  1. All certificates are issued and acknowledge by the Ministry of Education Youth and Sports
  2. Students can transfer from Private School to Public School- to -Private school.
  3. Intensive English Language Education which includes: Language Arts, Writing Skills, Reading Skills, and Math Skills.
  4. Inclusion of Chinese as an Additional Language
  5. Core subjects such as Math, Science and Social Studies are taught in  Khmer and English
  6. Hands on Computer Education (ICT)

All classes are small, with a teacher-pupil ratio of 16:1, encouraging individual growth. Each class has a Homeroom teacher responsible for the pastoral care of students, and who keeps in close contact with parents. Homeroom classes meet daily, and are generally taught in their core subjects by the Homeroom teachers, with other classes taught by specialist teachers. Our core subjects include: English, Math, Science, Khmer and Social Studies. On the other hand, special subjects integrated are as follows: Chinese, Computer, Arts and Music, Physical Education, and Health

Three Languages in One Program

English

The English program builds reading, listening, speaking and writing skills, spelling and math skills through varied classroom activities which link and integrate these through a range of processes, including performance, guided activities and classroom teaching. Reading, spelling and vocabulary programs allow students to be assessed at a particular level then receive individual assistance to allow them to progress at their own pace. This focus on individual needs allows teachers to teach, assess and report more accurately on student progress. Students are exposed to a variety of literature forms, improving their comprehension skills and encouraging the application of the techniques of writing and grammar in context. In the higher grades, library periods are regular features; students study novels in depth; do individual book reports and learn to respond in both writing and orally.

Khmer
This subject covers the richness of Khmer Language. Integrated in the course is a thorough teaching of the Khmer writing which also includes reading, speaking and listening using Khmer literature as models for lessons. All the other subjects are also taught in Khmer which makes understanding of concepts easier for students
Chinese
Chinese language is introduced to primary school learners. Chinese is a major language which form part of Cambodians daily communication, thus the need to integrate in the school curriculum. Learning Chinese from a native speaker makes it a lot easier to understand and absorb the principles and concepts governing the Chinese language.

Ladderized English Program
Background
Our LEP program is guided with the belief that students are active learners and unique individuals. They learn in a developmental sequence, progressing at their own pace. This program is designed to provide a continuing English education from foundation (pre-school) to late adolescent years (post-secondary). We are committed to meet every need of our students and provide an opportunity for them to explore, reflect, interact, and communicate with the world.
  1. EPS-English for Pre-School Learners (Starter and Super kids)

  2. Features of the curriculum:
    Graded coverage of the important early stages of reading and writing;
    • An active approach to language acquisition with implicit grammatical coverage;
    • Thematic curriculum which also covers important early concepts such as size, shape and color;
    • Reading text are presented with photographs which will appeal to pupils as they do the exercises;
    • Strong consideration on vocabulary;
    • Covers different topics that pupils encounter everyday;
    • Authentic songs, rhymes and stories to reinforce new Language;
    • Handwriting is practiced;
    • Mathematics is introduced; and
    • Innovative personalized learning


    A. Starter

    A 4 level starter course for 2-5 years old learners; With a Child-centered English curriculum which integrates other areas of learning such as math, science, art, music and social studies aside from the five language skills namely: reading, writing, grammar, speaking and listening.


    B. Super kids
    A follow up course for Starter, a 4 level course which provides perfect preparation for primary school by introducing letters, numbers and concepts through contextualized and stimulating language.


  3. EPL-English for Primary School Learners (Grade 1-6)


  4. Features of the curriculum:
    Each subject (Reading, Writing, Spelling, Math, and Language Arts) is bound to present challenges to understand and acquire the knowledge and skill the learners needs for every grade. These skills will help the learners improve their communication abilities, excel in all academic areas, and increase their confidence in taking tests/examinations.


  5. English for Secondary School Learners (Grade 7-12)


  6. Features of the Curriculum
    An integrated program that prepares secondary students for academic success. Language proficiencies are articulated from grade 7 to grade 12 according to the learners’ level of understanding.
    • Focuses on various language areas (reading, writing, speaking, listening, grammar) in which intensive discussion in each language area is provided. The curriculum prepares and equips the learners with the skills they need for academic achievement.


  7. English Diploma Course in (TEFL/TESOL/TESL)


  8. IEL’s English Diploma Course (EDC) is a teacher training program which covers all the essential aspects needed to teach English as/to: a Foreign Language; Speakers of Other Languages; or a Second language. This course is ideal for: High School graduates of English based program and students who hold certificate of completion in General English Language Education; and must be at least 18 years of age upon registration. The curriculum is designed in such a way that it contains all the necessary knowledge and skills in preparing the students to be an effective and efficient English Language teacher after the two-years of study. The students will be learning the different components of English Language Teaching from theories and principles to actual classroom teaching. After the course, the students will be equipped with the necessary training to handle all kinds all learners: How to teach pre-School learners; primary and secondary learners; and even adult learners. Aside from teaching skills, the students are also prepared to do all the other tasks of teachers such as: Lesson Planning; Exam Preparations; Computation of Grades and Evaluation; and Accomplishing Forms. Classroom Management is also taken as a separate course to introduce to students the different Classroom management approaches. The course will conclude with an in-service training for the students. One term will be devoted solely for practice teaching. Students will be asked to do demonstration teaching for all the language areas. They will be supervised by experienced English Language teachers who will provide insights and continuous guidance all throughout the term.
