General English Program (GEP)

IEL offers GEP Full time and GEP Part time courses. The General English Program is a course based on a wide variety of informative themes. The course involves the students in the process of learning with opportunities to discuss topics of personal interest and to communicate their own thoughts, feelings, and ideas for academic and business purposes. The course is designed to develop students’ English language abilities with comprehensive coverage of all five skill areas; speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar.

In addition to the course book, the GEP course integrates a large volume of supplementary material, assignments and activities which complement and enhance the language areas covered within the fixed course material.
This program is for people who need English in a broad range of day-to-day situations. The program takes students from initial English literacy (English Foundation) through to social and vocational proficiency (Level 15).

Students can enter this program at any level, depending on the result of the IEL Placement Test. Throughout the whole programs, main attentions are focused on the development of the four main macro skills including reading, speaking, listening, and writing.

These skills are assessed during the ongoing assessments and the final examination by the end of each term. Students progress one level per term, subject to satisfactory performance in the continuous class assessments and end-of-term tests.

A typical student, entering at Level 4 and studying part-time, could expect to graduate from Level 15 within approximately three years if successful at each stage of the program.
IEL Level 15 is recognized as the benchmark language requirement for employment requiring English proficiency and also for entry into some educational establishments.
